Researcher of the Faculty of Engineering Ranked Among the World’s Top 2% Scientists

An increasing number of researchers from the University of Debrecen are included each year in the international ranking of the top 2% of scientists worldwide.

In the latest edition, Prof. Dr. Ákos Lakatos, Head of the Department of Building Services and Building Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering, was also recognized.

The ranking – widely known as the Stanford List – is compiled by experts from Stanford University and Elsevier based on data from the Scopus database. The list identifies researchers with the highest scientific impact worldwide by analyzing citation metrics of their publications.

For the first time in the Faculty of Engineering's history, one of its academics has been included in this prestigious international ranking. The recognition of Prof. Dr. Ákos Lakatos represents an outstanding professional achievement not only for the researcher himself but also for the Faculty.

The ranking evaluates 22 scientific fields and 174 subfields. Its complex methodology considers six key indicators, including total citation count, the Hirsch index (H-index), the co-authorship-adjusted Schreiber index, and citations to single-authored, first-authored, and first- or last-authored publications.

The list is published in two versions: one based on annual citation performance and another assessing the cumulative scientific impact of researchers over their lifetimes.

In the 2025 ranking, several researchers from the University of Debrecen are included, further strengthening the institution’s international scientific visibility and reputation.

The Faculty of Engineering warmly congratulates Prof. Dr. Ákos Lakatos and all fellow University researchers included in the ranking on this prestigious international recognition and wishes them continued success in their scientific work.
