APC Funding

50% Open Access Funding

The University of Debrecen provides financial support towards publication charges. Professional and administrative support is provided by the University and National Library of the University of Debrecen (DEENK).

It is important to note that funding may cover 50% of the Article Processing Charge (APC), up to a maximum of HUF 400,000, provided that the author has indicated the University of Debrecen as their affiliation.

Each researcher at the University of Debrecen may apply for this funding up to three times per year.

The remaining portion of the APC may be financed by the Faculty of Engineering from the Faculty Research Fund, provided that the journal is ranked at least Q2 according to the SJR ranking at the time of application.

Application Process:

  1. Submission of the application: https://oatamogatas.lib.unideb.hu/login ;
  2. DEENK assesses whether the journal is eligible for funding.;
  3. DEENK notifies the applicant of the decision by email.;
  4. In the event of a positive decision, the applicant receives detailed information from DEENK on the payment process.;
  5. The documents received from DEENK must be forwarded to Judit Kovács (kovacs.judit@eng.unideb.hu), who arranges the payment of the remaining 50% of the invoice.

Detailed information is available here.

Read and Publish Agreements

Under these agreements, participating institutions or consortia undertake to cover 100% of the article processing charges (APCs) for articles authored by researchers affiliated with their institutions.

When publishing with a contracted publisher, the Read and Publish option will automatically appear as a payment option in the publisher’s submission or publication system when the APC is due. By selecting this option, the author is not required to take any further action to arrange payment of the APC.

Detailed information is available here.

Faculty Research Fund

For journals ranked Q2 or higher, the Faculty may cover the full APC. It is important that, if the journal is Gold Open Access, the author also applies for the 50% Open Access funding described above.

From 1 February 2026, the Faculty will no longer cover publication charges for manuscripts submitted to journals identified by MTMT as engaging in questionable publishing practices.
