Journal Selection and Verification

Journal Selection Support Services

Manuscript Matcher: This tool helps authors identify suitable journals for their manuscripts by entering the manuscript title and abstract. The search is based on data indexed in Web of Science.

Elsevier Journal Finder: This tool works similarly to Manuscript Matcher. It allows authors to identify suitable journals from Elsevier’s portfolio by entering an abstract or relevant keywords.

Checking Journal Indexing and Scientometric Data

MTMT Journal Search:

  • includes only journals that have already been registered in the MTMT system;
  • allows users to check whether a journal is classified as engaging in questionable publishing practices. If so, the following warning is highlighted in red in the “Comments” section: “Journal engaging in questionable publishing practices”;
  • provides information on whether the journal is peer-reviewed and on its classification (scientific or non-scientific);
  • includes the current SJR value;
  • indicates whether a Q1 journal is also classified as D1;
  • may occasionally contain incomplete journal data. In such cases, please contact our colleague Mihály Csüllög to request a correction.
  • IMPORTANT! Recognition of a journal as peer-reviewed is linked to its indexing in specific databases. If a journal does not meet the relevant criteria, it will be classified as non-peer-reviewed and, accordingly, will receive 0 points in the Tud-O-Méter performance evaluation system. Authors should only publish in journals that are recognised as peer-reviewed by MTMT.
  • The MTMT Journal Search does not provide information on Journal Impact Factor (JIF).

Norwegian Register:

  • Journals rated Level 0 in the Norwegian Register should generally be avoided, as MTMT uses the Norwegian Register as a basis for compiling its list of journals engaging in questionable publishing practices. Articles published in journals identified as engaging in questionable publishing practices are counted only in the “Other Scientific Publications” category in the relevant field-specific evaluation tables.

  • The Norwegian Register is available here: Norwegian Register

  • IMPORTANT! Not all Level 0 journals in the Norwegian Register are included in the MTMT list of journals engaging in questionable publishing practices. This is because journals may request a review and, following a successful review, may be removed from the list of journals engaging in questionable publishing practices. Further information is available here.

Checking Web of Science Indexing and Journal Impact Factor:

Checking Scopus Indexing:

  • Scopus provides a quarterly updated list, which is available at the bottom of the relevant webpage by clicking “Download the Source Title list”. The list includes currently discontinued journals, as well as journals that were previously or are currently indexed in Scopus.It is advisable to check whether the selected journal is still indexed in Scopus at the time of submission.
