We cordially invite all interested students, researchers, faculty members and professionals to a public lecture by Professor Radu-Emil Precup, IEEE Fellow, Corresponding Member of the Romanian Academy, Professor at Politehnica University of Timișoara, and Director of the Automatic Systems Engineering Research Centre.
The lecture presents low-cost fuzzy control approaches for motion control in autonomous machines and robotics, drawing on research by Radu-Emil Precup and his collaborators. It connects model-based controller design with data-driven tuning, focusing on compact PI/PID-type fuzzy controllers. Two-degree-of-freedom structures offer flexibility in balancing reference tracking and disturbance rejection, while indirect and direct Iterative Feedback Tuning refine controller parameters using experimental data. Particular attention is given to anti-windup schemes and locally identified evolving fuzzy models that reduce the number of physical experiments required for tuning. Experimental results from servo systems and tower cranes illustrate the approaches, complemented by mobile robot applications combining optimized path planning with fuzzy tracking control. The lecture concludes with practical considerations for implementation, including stability, actuator constraints and model validity.
Date: 14 October 2026 (Wednesday), 12:30–13:30
