Final Exam, Diploma Grade

Completion of the program

As completion of the undergraduate program the Faculty draws up a pre-degree certification for a graduand if he/she has completed all the study and exam requirements, requirements on Physical Education ruled by 10§ of the Rules and Regulations of University of Debrecen and on internship – except making a thesis – and has gained the required credits ordered by the curriculum. Making a thesis is a prerequisite of drawing up a pre-degree certificate. A pre-degree certification certifies without qualification and evaluation that the graduand completed all the study and exam requirements and requirements on Physical Education required by his/her curriculum.  A student obtained a pre-degree certificate can hand in his/her thesis and can take a final exam.

Final exam (state exam)

Students having obtained the pre-degree certificate will finish their studies in the Civil Engineering undergraduate (BSc) program by taking the final exam. A final exam means the testing and evaluating of the knowledge (skills) necessary to obtain higher education qualification and candidates prove that they can apply the acquired knowledge. Conditions on submission to the final exam are defined by the requirements of the program.  A final exam can be taken in the first final exam period after the award of the pre-degree certificate. A final exam is conducted in front of a committee. .  If a candidate does not complete his/her final exam as long as he/she has an active student status, it can be taken in any final exam period after the termination of his/her student status considering the existing requirements and regulations on final exams referring to that time.

The final exam on the basis of the curriculum:

- defending the thesis (presentation of the thesis that is followed responding questions and comments)

The final exam board evaluates the oral exam with a five-point grading scale then decides on the final grade of the final exam in closed sitting by voting. In controversial cases the committee chair takes the decision. The result of the final exam is announced by the committee chair. Minutes shall be taken of each final exam.

 Improving a failed final exam

According to the Rules and Regulations of the University a final exam can be retaken if it is parts as a fail. The ensuing final exam period is the soonest that the re-sit is allowed. In case the referees unambiguously evaluated the thesis as fail a student is not allowed to take a final exam and he/she has to make a new thesis.  Retake of a final exam is allowed twice.

Final Examination Board

Committee chair and members of the committee are called upon and mandated by the dean with the consent of the Faculty Council. According to Faculty traditions, it is the chair and in case of his/her absence or indisposition the vice-chair who will be called upon, as well. The Final Exam Board consists of – besides the chair – at least two members and sufficient number of questioners (professor or senior lecturer). The order of the candidates is announced for the mandated Committee by the Faculty Registry Office. Multinational firms are represented in the Final Exam Board by foreign professionals of subsidiaries in Hungary.
