Thanks to the International Student Union (ISU Debrecen) and the University of Debrecen Faculty of Engineering Student Council (DEHÖK), there will be plenty of events from the 19th to the 25th of September, both day and night!
How to Make Friends
While there’s no pressure to attend every event, staying in your room might mean missing out on the chance to socialize and connect with new people. Even if you're not in the mood for a week of partying, it’s still a good idea to get out and spend time with potential friends.
Keep in mind that everyone is in the same boat—probably just as anxious and eager to meet new people. Nobody arrives at uni with an established group of best friends, so you're not alone in wanting to make connections!
Fun Programs Await You!
Following the MEET & GREET night on Thursday to make new friends, meet your colleagues from other groups and faculties, or listening to the Alumni Members' experiences from all around the world, Friday is all about sports!
Friday is all about sports! Head to the DEAC field in the afternoon for a variety of sports and games, including a football tournament, followed by bowling night from 7 PM to midnight. Show off your skills and maybe even swap phone numbers! If bowling isn’t your thing, don’t worry—the venue also offers a pool table, a bar, and arcade games to keep you entertained.
Don’t miss the chance to enjoy the Waterpark Fun Night on Saturday from 7 PM to midnight at Aquaticum Debrecen!
Note: Some activities have a limited number of spots and operate on a first-come, first-served basis. Check out the full program here:

Blend with Hungarian Students at the Sörsátor!
The Sörsátor (Beer Tent) is the most famous event at the Faculty of Engineering! Held in early autumn and late spring at the Lovarda, it kicks off on 23rd Monday at 5 PM with a cooking competition, where students, professors and faculty staff can have fun together. Classic pub sports like darts, poker, arm wrestling competitions, hot dog eating, and beer drinking contests are paired with fantastic concerts for 3 days!

What if I Don’t Drink?
Don’t worry—it’s not all about drinking. While student culture can often revolve around alcohol, if you don’t drink, you won’t be alone. You can still attend Freshers’ Week events at night, even if you're not drinking—just be prepared for a lively atmosphere with some noisy, tipsy people. If that's not your scene, you can always focus on the non-drinking events and find like-minded friends.
Hopefully, this guide has helped you get excited about the start of your university journey. Freshers' Week is all about you—your chance to have fun and meet new people. It’s also completely normal to feel a bit anxious. Go at your own pace, embrace everything the experience has to offer, and make the most of it! After all, you only get one Freshers’ Week! Let this be the perfect start to many years of amazing memories.
