The WorldSkills Shanghai 2026 competitions began on 23 September. At one of the world’s most prestigious international skills competitions, Hungary is represented in Robot Systems Integration by two of our colleagues, Károly Árpád Kis and Dániel Vígh. Their university trainer, our colleague Gyula Korsoveczki, has also travelled to Shanghai with the team.
The 48th WorldSkills Competition is taking place in Shanghai from 22 to 27 September. The scale of the event shows its international importance: 1,385 young professionals from 68 countries and regions are competing in 64 different skills. The competitions cover six major professional areas, from manufacturing and engineering technology to information technology, creative arts and services. The event is being held at the National Exhibition and Convention Center in Shanghai.
Industrial Robotics: A Complex Engineering Challenge
Károly Árpád Kis and Dániel Vígh are competing in Robot Systems Integration, a field closely connected to industrial robotics. We are especially proud that this is the first time a team from Debrecen has represented Hungary in this skill at a WorldSkills Competition.
Robot Systems Integration is a two-person team competition that requires much more than robot programming. Competitors have to solve complex robotics and automation tasks. They must design, build and program robotic systems, integrate additional equipment, ensure safe operation, and solve technical problems.
The competition tests a wide range of abilities, including robot programming, automation skills, systems thinking, problem-solving, precision and teamwork. According to WorldSkills Hungary, competitors must find, design and implement the most efficient and safest way for a robot to carry out a given industrial process.
Months of Intensive Preparation
The team’s participation in Shanghai was preceded by months of intensive professional preparation. They have trained specifically for the requirements of the WorldSkills Competition with the support of István Bíró, an official FANUC Expert. Gyula Korsoveczki has also supported the team as their university trainer.
The preparation focused not only on improving the technical knowledge needed for the competition. It was also important to prepare the competitors to make quick, precise and well-considered decisions under the pressure of an international competition.
The team has developed a clear strategy: they will focus mainly on complex, high-scoring tasks where successful performance can give them an advantage in the competition. During the four competition days, good time management and tactical decisions will therefore be just as important as technical knowledge.
Four Days Among the World’s Best
WorldSkills is much more than a competition. It showcases the value of high-level professional skills and brings together young professionals, educators and industry experts from around the world. It also provides an opportunity to share knowledge and present the latest developments in vocational education and technology.
This year’s competition places special emphasis on rapidly developing technologies. Fields such as industrial robotics, mechatronics and Industry 4.0 show how professional skills are changing and what kind of knowledge will be needed in the automated manufacturing environments of the future.
