EDC Visit to the Faculty of Engineering: Focus on the Lean Approach

EDC colleagues who specialize in investment promotion, business development, and economic analysis visited the Faculty of Engineering.

The purpose of the visit was to familiarize more of their experts with the opportunities available in the faculty’s lean lab, which can also benefit businesses. Additionally, they gained insight into the lean approach and its importance in developing efficient processes.

Gergely Fekszi, Lead Business Development Expert at EDC (Debrecen Urban and Economic Development Center) highlighted that the Faculty’s outstanding instructors—experienced consultants at Kaizen Institute Hungary—and the lab’s modern equipment provide an excellent opportunity to learn and apply lean principles in practice. Lean is not just a management method but a mindset that holds great potential for operational development and efficiency improvement.

Dr. Norbert Mátrai, who led the session, emphasized that the visitors were introduced to an essential approach for efficiently operating competitive businesses. While multinational companies widely apply lean principles, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are still less familiar with them. The training and the lab offer valuable support in this regard.

The Department of Technical Management and Entrepreneurship strongly recommends the Lean Engineer/Manager specialization program to those who wish to master efficiency-enhancing tools. The program is open to engineers and applicants from other fields, as their diplomas are accepted. Moreover, the program is available in English, making it accessible to international students.

When designing the schedule, special consideration was given to balancing work and family life: classes are held after working hours or on weekends. Additionally, small-group teaching allows for personalized attention and in-depth learning.
