The Dawn of a New Era at the Faculty of Engineering!

The Faculty of Engineering has reached another milestone in the history of engineering training in Hungary. Based on the decision of the Hungarian Accreditation Committee, our faculty has met the accreditation requirements.

Dear Visitors,

I am pleased and proud to announce that UD’s Faculty of Engineering has reached another milestone in the history of engineering training in Hungary. Based on the decision of the Hungarian Accreditation Committee, our faculty has met the accreditation requirements and has been allowed to officially establish the Imre Pekár Doctoral School of Mechanical Engineering, which has been accredited until 13 December, 2029.

This achievement is not only an acknowledgement of nearly 30 years of hard work and commitment (the Debrecen regional unit of the Ybl Miklós Technical College joined the University at then), but also the beginning of a new, forward-looking chapter at the Faculty of Engineering. The Doctoral School will provide the opportunity to pursue engineering sciences at the highest level and ensure the continuity of the three levels of higher education (BSc, MSc, PhD) in the region.

The Head of the Doctoral School is Dr. Ferenc Kalmár, full professor, DSc, professor of GTIDEA.

Two programs and two sub-programs will be offered to prospective doctoral students at the start:

I. Building Engineering, Building energetics Program
Program coordinator: Dr. Ferenc Kalmár full professor, DSc, professor of GTIDEA.

II. Integrated, Intelligent Mechanical Systems Program
Program coordinator: Dr. Péter Korondi full professor, DSc

  • Mechanical Process Design, Material and Machine Diagnostics Sub-program
Sub-program coordinator: Dr. Imre Kocsis Imre, full professor
  • Mechatronics, Cyber-Physical Systems Sub-program
Sub-program coordinator: Dr. Géza Husi full professor, professor of GTIDEA

The doctoral school is supported by the excellent research infrastructure of the University of Debrecen and the Faculty of Engineering, the Department of Mechanical Engineering, and the Department of Civil Engineering. A few weeks ago, the Institute of Vehicle Engineering and Mechatronics was awarded the title of "Outstanding Domestic Research Infrastructure", which further enhances the quality and attractiveness of the training.

This new doctoral school provides our students the opportunity to witness, and to actively shape the engineering innovations of the future. We build the future in Debrecen!

Let’s enter a new era of science and innovation together!
