Exam period Start End Duration

for non-graduating students

21 May 2024 5 July 2024 7 weeks
for graduating students 15 April 2024 17 May 2024 5 weeks

I. Courses ending with mid-semester grades:

Please make sure your mid-semester grades and signatures (e.g. Physical Education) have been submitted on Neptun until the end of the study period or no later than the end of third week in the examination period. Should something be missing or false, please contact the course instructor.

In case a student fails to complete the requirements of a mid-term test, he/she will be offered a one-time retake opportunity. If he/she again fails to complete the requirements after this opportunity, he/she will be given another chance by the end of the third week of the examination period (see Rules and Regulations, Article 8 Course requirements, p. 14.). If a student fails to complete a course due to the excess of the maximum number of absences, he/she cannot obtain credits for the course (see Rules and Regulations, Special Provisions for the Faculty of Engineering, updated version, Article 7, p. 3-4.).

II. Signatures:

Please read Article 12 on page 5 in the Faculty Annex of Rules and Regulations (updated version).

"The signature in the lecture book proves the completion of the requirements of the given course in the study period. Conditions of obtaining the signature are included in the course requirements of the study programs, appeals against the invalidation of signatures can be submitted to the EO (Education Office) addressed to the president of the EC by the end of first week of the examination period. ..."

As signature proves the completion of course requirements in the study period, improvement is possible until the end of the third week of the examination period. If a student fails to complete a course due to the excess of the maximum number of absences, he/she cannot obtain credits for the course (see Rules and Regulations, Special Provisions for the Faculty of Engineering, updated version, Article 7, p. 3-4.).

III. Offered grades:

If a student has got an offered grade on Neptun, he/she can accept it or reject it under "Subjects", then "Offered grades" until the end of the examination period (more precisely until Neptun closure of the given semester). If he/she fails to make a statement until the aforementioned deadline, the course will show up as "not completed".

If a student is given an offered grade on Neptun, he/she should not register for an exam date on Neptun because he/she will not be able to accept the offered grade (exam registration blocks approving an offered grade).

VI. Information on exam registration (e.g. number of exam attempts, retake exam fee):

Please do not forget to register for the exams on Neptun (in the event of courses ending in an exam grade). Without exam registration a student is not allowed to sit for the exam.

If a student has signed up for an exam previously but failed to deregister from it on time, it counts as an attempt. In this case the note “missed” will be submitted on Neptun. For missed exams fees will apply. Exam registration is possible with a signature (previously submitted by the course instructor) on Neptun.

Only students who have no outstanding charges (e.g. unpaid items on Neptun, unpaid tuition fees) are allowed to register for exams.

Exam registration on Neptun: Under “Exams”, then “Exam registration”, click "+", press "Register".
Exam deregistration on Neptun: Under "Exams", "Taken exams", click "+", press "Drop".

Within one examination period a student has maximum three attempts: exam, retake exam, repeated retake exam. During the student's entire studies here he/she has maximum six exam attempts. If he/she cannot complete the credit points assigned to the subject even after the sixth exam registration, his/her student status shall expire.

The minimum number of examination dates per subject/course shall be three. If a student selects the last exam date as his/her first attempt, then he/she should be aware of the fact that this will be his/her last chance in the given examination period.

After the retake exam (second exam registration), there is an exam fee to be paid (3 000 HUF). Please ensure there is enough money on your Neptun account because transferring money to it may take at least 3 working days. If a student has already taken the exam and the retake exam (in one subject/course), he/she has to pay for all further exam opportunities (exam registrations in previous examination periods count).

The Neptun payment guide is available on Neptun under "Belépés/Log in”, "Hallgatói/Student”, under Downloadable documents after switching the language to English.

An exam grade (grade 2, 3 or 4) can be improved in the given examination period. Improvement in another examination period is not possible.

Rules and Regulations (Article 21, „Improving passed exams”, page 24)

(1)    If students wish to improve the grade or assessment that they have already received, they may do so in maximum two subjects per semester and once per subject within the examination period. The assessment and the grade received at the make-up examinations shall be final, except if it is failed, which may be then improved in another retake according to the relevant regulations on failed examinations.
(2)    The grade received after the retake of a passed examination may not be improved any further.

Rules and Regulations (Article 19, "The Order of Examinations", page 23)

(7) "Students may submit a written proof of an excuse for missing an examination within three working days at the Education Office (that is to say International Office, Faculty of Engineering). If they manage to do so, the office shall delete their registration for the examination. Missing an exam shall not influence in any way whatsoever the assessment of the student's knowledge. If students fail to appear for the examination, their knowledge may not be assessed."

(8) "Missing an examination without a legitimate cause shall result in recording "failed to appear" in the academic system. In such a case students shall have missed one potential chance for taking the examination during the semester at all, the record "failed to appear" shall be entered in their lecture book, too, by the Education Office (that is to say International Office, Faculty of Engineering). If the student does not sign up for an examination during the examination period at all or signs up but fails to appear, a "not completed" entry is to be input into the academic system."

VII. For students with same-semester registration for courses built upon each other

According to the Rules and Regulations of the University of Debrecen, "Same-semester registration for courses building upon each other is possible if the student obtained the semester signature of the prerequisite courses in an earlier semester. Examination requirements of courses need to be completed in the sequence designated in the prerequisites, and failing to do so will result in the Education Committee destroying achieved results."

In order to help you follow the right order, we will disable exam registration in case of the parallelly registered subjects built on others, so we would like to ask you to let us know when the grade of the prerequisite subject gets entered in the Neptun system in the exam period so that we can unlock exam registration for the subjects built on them.

Please note that this will not affect exam registration for other subjects.

VIII. End of semester:

A couple of days after the end of the examination period the semester will be closed and the grade average for the current semester will be calculated on Neptun. After this closure grades cannot be submitted any more for this semester. Therefore, please make sure that all the necessary grades, signatures for the courses taken in the current semester have been submitted. Results of the current semester should be checked on Neptun under "Studies", then "Gradebook" (semester: 2023/24/2). Should something be missing or false, please contact the course instructor.

Exceptional case (this section applies in the summer semester only): Internship. As students undertake internship in summer, signatures/grades (after successful completion of the internship period) will be submitted on Neptun at the beginning of September.

If all the necessary grades have been submitted on Neptun before the end of the examination period, upon the student's request (e.g. to issue transcript of records) the semester can be closed on Neptun. In this case please ask your administrator from International Office, Faculty of Engineering to close the semester on Neptun.

LAST BUT NOT LEAST:

Please check your Neptun messages and emails on a daily basis because they are primary means of information channel at the university.
Please ensure that your email address on Neptun (under “My data”, “Contact information”, “Email addresses”) is up to date. Amend it if necessary because most Neptun messages (sent by lecturers, administrators) are automatically forwarded to the email address given on Neptun. Automatic Neptun messages (grade modifications, exam date announcement, subject/course registration) are not necessarily forwarded to your email address. On Neptun under "Messages" (menu bar on the left), please select "Settings", then "Message Forwarding". Here you can select what type of Neptun messages (for e.g. messages concerning exam grade registration, messages concerning subject/course registration) you wish to be forwarded to your email address indicated on Neptun.

Please also check your personal data on Neptun (for e.g. first name, family name, mother’s name, country of birth, place of birth, etc...) under “My data”, “Personal information”. Should something be missing or wrong, please contact the Coordinating Centre for International Education.
