The Faculty of Engineering Wins the Excellent Research Infrastructure Award

The Faculty of Engineering at the University of Debrecen has been recognized by the National Research, Development, and Innovation Office as one of the top research institutions in Hungary with outstanding infrastructure.

The official certificate was recently awarded in Budapest. There are 111 certified research infrastructures operating in Hungary. On January 5, 2024, the National Research, Development, and Innovation Office launched the "National Research Infrastructures 2023-2024" survey to identify research infrastructures of national significance. The evaluation process was conducted under the professional supervision of the National Research Infrastructure Committee, involving independent external experts.

Evaluation Criteria

The competing research institutions were assessed based on the following criteria:

  • Uniqueness, scientific excellence, national strategic significance, and domestic networking
  • International collaborations and partnerships
  • Open access and utilization
  • Education and talent development
  • Industrial innovation collaborations

As a result of the multi-stage evaluation process, the "Human-Centered Technologies in Mechatronics and Robotics"research unit of the Faculty of Engineering was awarded the Excellent Research Infrastructure and Excellent Research Infrastructure Network titles. The research network includes:

  • University of Debrecen, Faculty of Engineering – Institute of Vehicle Engineering and Mechatronics
  • Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BME), GPK-MOGI
  • HUN-REN Institute for Computer Science and Control (SZTAKI)

Research Focus Areas

  • The Faculty of Engineering at the University of Debrecen specializes in human-centered virtual modeling techniques, particularly in vehicle mechatronics and social robotics.
  • The BME Mechatronic Measurement Laboratory focuses on haptic systems, motion analysis, and optical measurement and modeling technologies.
  • The HUN-REN SZTAKI conducts research on autonomous robotic systems, human-robot collaboration, digital twin models, and energy efficiency.

This recognition confirms that the Faculty of Engineering remains at the forefront of higher education institutions in Hungary and the region in terms of research infrastructure and innovation.
