The mission aimed to deepen existing international ties, initiate new collaborative frameworks, and lay the groundwork for joint education and research programs. Several key agreements were reached, paving the way for long-term partnerships that will significantly strengthen the Faculty’s global presence.
From Hong Kong to Shanghai – Five Institutions, Five Strategic Collaborations
Led by Dean Prof. Dr. Géza Husi, the delegation's first stop was The Chinese University of Hong Kong, a leading research university in the region. The discussions focused on fostering cooperation between doctoral schools in mechanical and electrical engineering. Alongside presentations of flagship research projects, initial talks began on launching joint PhD programs and academic mobility initiatives—marking a major step toward long-term scientific collaboration.

Shanghai DianJi University – Hosting an Innovation Forum in Debrecen
As a direct outcome of the visit, the Faculty of Engineering and Shanghai DianJi University will co-organize the “Innovation Forum on Digital Design and Manufacturing Exhibition and Innovation Summit" on October 16 in Debrecen. The event is part of the “One Belt One Road” Science and Technology Initiative, a strategic program supported by the Chinese government, in which the UD will serve as co-chair between 2025 and 2027. Additional agreements were reached regarding faculty exchange and visiting professor programs, further enhancing bilateral cooperation.

Ningbo Tech University – Plans for a Joint PhD Subprogram
Ningbo Tech University aims to strengthen its international academic network and considers the partnership with the University of Debrecen a strategic priority. Discussions included the development of a joint PhD subprogram and measures to expand student mobility between the institutions.

Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics – Curriculum and Credit Cooperation
Meetings with Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics focused on harmonizing BSc curricula in Vehicle Engineering and identifying credit transfer options. Talks also explored the launch of joint education models and exchange programs for both students and faculty in aerospace and vehicle engineering disciplines.
University of Shanghai Electric Power (SUEP) – Launching a Joint Doctoral Program
One of the most significant outcomes of the visit was the agreement to launch a doctoral subprogram within the Pekár Imre Doctoral School at the University of Debrecen, supported by SUEP as a partner. SUEP will contribute three core faculty members to the program, and both universities will jointly participate in the “Innovative Talent International Cooperation Training Program+”, funded by the China Scholarship Council. This initiative will support two-way mobility for PhD students, academic staff, and MSc students, and the framework for this cooperation was finalized during the meetings.
Strategic Advancement on the International Stage
This series of visits resulted in concrete and long-term outcomes that will enhance the Faculty’s role in global academic and research networks. Joint doctoral programs, enhanced student and faculty mobility, collaborative curricula, and participation in international research platforms all contribute to advancing the Faculty’s scientific capacity, visibility, and talent development.
These partnerships not only create new academic and professional opportunities for students and staff but also strengthen the Faculty of Engineering’s global positioning as a competitive and forward-thinking institution in higher education.
