Objectives of the undergraduate program, competences to be acquired:
The objective of the program is to train urban system engineers who are capable to provide and control activities of urban planning, settlement architecture, principal architecture and technical authorities, administrations and the communal, maintenance, organizational, services, environmental and the protection of urban build environment of a local government. Urban systems engineers are prepared at high level to implement the conception and programs of urban development and to make their plans. They are able to   harmonise the development of settlements, groups of settlements, areas to make spatial plans, to manage and control such activities and to make scientific research of the professional field.  They are prepared on further studies in doctoral program.

Professional competences to be acquired
An urban system engineer’s 
a) Knowledge

  • He/she knows contemporary theory and practice of urban planning, the interrelationship of theory and practice.
  • He/she has acquired the basic knowledge of architecture, engineering, ecology, environmental science, sociology, economy, law and administration.
  • He/she is able to interpret and assess maps, plans and technical drawings, the techniques of visualization.
  • He/she knows the methods and tools of how to coordinate and carry out a regional and rural development programs.
  • He/she knows complex natural and cultural environmental systems, the latest results, outcomes of the professional field. 
  • He/she has acquired the knowledge of computer communication, data management and data analysis.
  • He/she knows graphic systems (CAD, GIS) and their application in regional and rural planning.
  • He/she knows the fundamental principles of environment protection, quality management, consumer protection, product liability, principle and application of equal access, workplace health and safety, legal rules of engineering and economy and engineering ethics.
  • He/she knows the widely applicable problem solving techniques in research, scientific work.
  • He/she knows the characteristics of global social and economic processes that influence urban development and settlement. 

b) Abilities

  • He/she is able to apply the acquired knowledge and problem solving techniques in practice.
  • He/she is able to apply the acquired professional knowledge of the discipline to elaborate new problems and phenomena originates from the lack of experience.   
  • He/she is able to draw up relevant judgement or opinion related to problems of urban development and to make conclusions.
  • He/she is able to design and carry out tasks of settlement and construction at a professional high level.
  • He/she is able to manage resources of engineering, economy and human resources. 
  • He/she is able to provide urban and regional development tasks on the basis of his/her system approach and process oriented thinking.
  • He/she is able to apply integrated social, economic, environmental knowledge in the fields of urban settlement, urban development and regional planning.
  • He/she is able to make investigations, analyses of settlements, settlement groups for arrangement and structural and regulatory plans involved engineers of the branch.    
  • He/she is able to decide on urban development and land-use plans, their critical assessment and on the basis of that to provide the job of an urban system architect, a chief architect and tasks of technical authorities, administration.  
  • He/she is able to organize, harmonize, coordinate, manage the activities of a planning team, to recognize the modes of their actions, to assess and treat them in system approach.
  • He/she is able to apply procedures, models, information technologies issued in urban planning, operation and administration.

c) Attitude

  • He/she will endeavour to acquire developed spatial vision and appropriate visual expression.
  • He/she will endeavour to solve problems originated by different interests in settlement development and to make decision in the public interest.
  • He/she is open to cooperate, communicate and negotiate during a professional process.  
  • He/she will endeavour to analyse and make synthesis assessment of the elements related to the built environment.
  • He/she is open to participate in comprehensive work of different professional fields, to manage and coordinate team work.
  • He/she will endeavour to enforce the requirements of energy efficiency and maintenance.
  • He/she will endeavour to work on the basis of his/her system approach and process oriented way of thinking regarded to complex approach.
  • He/she will examine the possibilities of research, development and innovation and he/she will endeavour to fulfil them in carrying out his/her work.

  • He/she shall take a proactive approach to solve territorial and settlement planning related professional problems independently.
  • He/she has responsibility for sustainable and environment aware settlement development. 
  • He/she shall make decision on settlement development and organization, and constructions independently and prudently in consultation with representatives of the relevant areas of expertise (primarily legal, economic, energetic and environmental fields) and he/she shall takes responsible for them. 
  • He/she shall consider environment protection, quality management, consumer protection, product liability, the principle of equal access and application, health and safety at work, engineering, economic and legal rules and he/she shall comply the essential principles of engineering ethics.

d) Autonomy and responsibility

  • Having spent enough time for practice he/she can be a manager responsible for making plans on settlement development and organization.
  • He/she shall take a proactive approach to solve territorial and settlement planning related professional problems independently.
  • He/she has responsibility for sustainable and environment aware settlement development. 
  • He/she shall make decision on settlement development and organization, and constructions independently and prudently in consultation with representatives of the relevant areas of expertise (primarily legal, economic, energetic and environmental fields) and he/she shall takes responsible for them.
